Tokyo. I was in Japan just a while back but missed the cherry blossom festival, and those things are only in bloom for about a week or so. But i still wanted to take a picture of something very traditionally Japanese, and for me, this was it. Let me know what you think.

Hey.

Nice composition. Is it raining though? the pattern on the umbrella resembles an umbrella shot with a long(-ish) exposure time...

Yes and yes (unfortunately). It was overcast and between trying to shield the camera from the rain and almost slipping and falling down a flight of stairs, i just set the camera to sport mode and shot as fast as i could - thus the blur. And thanks for the comment :)

Ambition is like a frog sitting on a Venus' flytrap. The flytrap can bite and bite, but it won't bother the frog because it only has little tiny plant teeth. But some other stuff could happen and it could be like ambition.

This is just great. Wouldn't mind a colour version, though.

Thanks :D. i did have about 7 different versions of this photo on the table (colour,b&w, duotone etc...) and it took me ages to decide on one to put up. Although, i don't like the idea of posting the same picture multiple times i just might put up a different version later at some point (if i can ever decide on one).

Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent picture. A tripod and a little longer exposure would've made it more "hazy"/"misty" I think. There was a site once that suggested that you'd just weld a tripod to the camera, in order not to forget it. Ah well, we do what we can.

In the future, tripods will come built into cameras. all you have to do is slide them out from the underside... i'm gonna go get that patented...

That is a good one :). inflatable tripods perhaps. dr. Schlock technology. Airbag-type deployment. Just the slightest wobble in heavy breezes. A mere flick of the wrist to deflate :).

We will see what the future will bring. So far, I've noticed that my big tripod is not even heavy enough, or stable enough for my large format camera. So I'll have to splurge for a new one, one day.
